Walt Disney Pictures is moving ahead on a sequel to Alice in Wonderland, with original screenwriter Linda Woolverton returning to write the follow-up. It isn't clear at this time if Tim Burton will return to direct.

Alice in Wonderland took the box office by storm in 2010, taking in $334 million domestically and just over $1 billion worldwide. It also isn't known if deals are already in place for Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter), Mia Wasikowska (Alice), Helena Bonham Carter (Red Queen), and Anne Hathaway (White Queen) to reprise their roles.

Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd, and Jennifer Todd will return as producers on this follow-up. It isn't known if Disney already has a release date in mind.

Alice in Wonderland's massive success spawned a revival of live-action fairy tales such as Snow White and the Huntsman, Mirror Mirror, Oz: The Great and Powerful, and Maleficent, also written by Linda Woolverton.
