Though long rumored, Aaron Taylor-Johnson almost didn't sign on for the part due to his Godzilla publicity schedule getting in the way. According to sources close to the production, he has since worked out his hectic schedule, ensuring his availability for this Marvel Phase Three adventure.
Marvel had no comment.
Likened to the DC Comics character Flash, Quicksilver possesses super human speed. Real name Pietro Maximoff, he is the offspring of Magneto and the brother of Wanda, aka Scarlet Witch, who will be portrayed in The Avengers: Age of Ultron by Elizabeth Olsen.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson won't be the only Quicksilver heading to the big screen in the near future. In a rare instance of Marvel property crossover, the character is an X-Men as well as an Avenger, which means he is shared by both Disney and 20th Century Fox. Director Bryan Singer cast Evan Peters to play Pietro in next summer's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Its not yet known how different the characters will actually be in both projects. The Avengers: Age of Ultron is not allowed to refer to Quicksilver as a Mutant, nor are they allowed to reference Magneto. But if the subject of 'father' comes up, most fans will know who is being talked about.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson previously made his mark in the superhero world playing the title character, aka Dave Lizewski, in the original 2010 Kick-Ass and its 2013 sequel Kick-Ass 2.
Avengers: Age of Ultron comes to theaters May 1st, 2015 and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.
