Breaking Bad star Aaron Paul has signed on to take the lead role in DreamWorks' Need for Speed. We reported in July that Taylor Kitsch was offered the role, although a deal never materialized.

The project will be adapted from the Electronic Arts video games, although it won't be based on one specific game in particular. The studio hopes to launch a franchise similar to The Fast and the Furious series. No details were given regarding Aaron Paul's character, although one would assume he will be a driver of some sorts.

Scott Waugh (Act of Valor) is directing from a screenplay by John Gatins (Real Steel) and his brother George Gatins. John Gatins will also produce alongside Patrick O'Brien and Mark Sourian. No production schedule has been released at this time.
